    FROM: NYSUT Member Benefits

    RE: The Preferred Group

This is a follow-up to a communication that we sent last week related to The Preferred Group.

The Preferred Group is the administrator of endorsed Flexible Benefit Plans and/or Health Reimbursement Arrangements that are or were available to employees you represent.

The Preferred Group recently, again without notice to NYSUT Member Benefits, updated the post on its website to now state that The Preferred Group has discontinued operations and is no longer providing plan administration services (Home - The Preferred Group) effective August 12, 2026.

The District has ceased payroll deductions for FSA and dependent Care contributions effective August 13, 2026. The district is in the process of "actively and aggressively working to identify and secure a new provider as quickly as possible" per Alyssa Murray, Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations.

Details regarding the new provider are forthcoming and will be communicated to members as soon as they are available.

Members of the Mahopac Teachers’ Association attended the NYSUT Leadership Conference in Ossining, New York, on August 10 and 11, joining union leaders and members from across the region for two days of learning, collaboration, and professional growth. Throughout the conference, MTA members participated in workshops focused on union leadership, member engagement, advocacy, communication, and strengthening local associations. The sessions provided valuable ideas and resources that our members can bring back to Mahopac to help strengthen the MTA and better support our membership. The conference also provided an opportunity to connect with other union leaders, share experiences, and learn new approaches to building an informed, engaged, and active membership. The MTA is proud of our members who dedicated part of their summer to developing their leadership skills and strengthening our Association.

The new Mahopac Teachers’ Association website is designed to be a central resource for our members and a place to showcase the work of the MTA within our schools and community.

Members can use the website to stay informed about MTA news, upcoming events, meetings, union activities, member benefits, important resources, and opportunities to get involved. It will also highlight the accomplishments of our members and the many ways MTA members support Mahopac students, families, and the greater community.

Our goal is to make communication easier, increase member engagement, and help every member better understand the resources and support available through the MTA and NYSUT. Most importantly, the website reflects who we are: educators and professionals working together to support one another, advocate for our members, and strengthen the Mahopac school community.

Stay informed. Get involved. Stay connected.

    Take Action

The NYSUT Member Action Center (MAC) makes it easy for union members to make their voices heard on issues that affect our schools, our students, our profession, and our communities. Through the Member Action Center, NYSUT members can quickly participate in statewide advocacy campaigns, contact elected officials, respond to important legislative action alerts, and speak out on issues affecting public education and working people. When thousands of NYSUT members take action together, our individual voices become a powerful collective voice. Stay informed. Take action. Make your voice heard.
